The National Technical Certificate in Block-laying and Concreting is aimed at producing skilled and self-reliant
craftsmen that can execute and coordinate Block-laying and Concreting work in a construction project.
On completion of this programme, the trainee craftsmen should be able to:
a) Read and interpret building construction drawings.
b) Apply basic safety principles of construction procedures.
c) Identify block laying and concreting materials and their uses.
d) Produce sound reinforced and mass concrete structures to specifications.
e) State the materials used for finishing and their applications in construction works.
f) Supervise simple construction projects.
g) Set up subcontract business in Block-laying and Concreting works.
h) Demonstrate basic principles of site organization.
In a 15 weeks term, 12 weeks will be for academic activities while 1 week will be for registration and 2 weeks will be
for evaluation. For a 40hrs week, 6hrs will be for core theory courses; 2hrs General education courses and 32 hrs will
be for practical.
The National Technical Certificate Examination shall be externally moderated. In grading the awards; theory shall
constitute- 20%, practical - 50% and SIWES- 30%. If there are group practical/projects, trainees shall be assessed
periodically on individual basis and records kept. Note that trainees are to be assessed on completion of every

Distinction (70 and above), Credit (55-69), Pass (40-54), Fail (0-39) .
SIZE OF THE PROGRAMME:
The programme should have an intake of 25 trainees per session.
On graduation, holders of NTC Final can work as self employed or independent certified technician in the industry.
A holder of the NTC Final can proceed to an Innovatioin center to earn a diploma (NID) in the same course.
Candidates with performance above average can obtain admission into the university or Polytechnics for further studies in Nigeria, USA, or Canada.
